What to Expect at Your First IV Therapy Visit
Published August 18, 2026
A first visit to any medical clinic can feel like an unknown, so here’s what a typical appointment at Village IV Therapy actually looks like, from booking to walking out the door.
Booking or Walking In
Most clients book a same-day appointment online before arriving, though walk-ins are welcome at our Greenwich Village clinic based on availability. Either way, you’ll want to bring a photo ID and arrive a few minutes early to fill out a short health history form if it’s your first visit.
A Quick Nurse Assessment
Before any drip or injection is administered, a licensed nurse reviews your health history and talks through what you’re hoping to get out of your visit. This is also the point where they’ll confirm which formula makes sense for you that day and answer any questions about the process. For more on why this step matters, see Is IV Therapy Safe? What to Know.
During Your IV Drip
Once you’re settled into a private treatment chair, a small IV line is placed, usually in your arm or hand. Most drips take about 45 to 60 minutes, though wellness shots are much quicker — under 15 minutes — and a slower infusion like NAD+ can take closer to two hours. You’re welcome to relax, check your phone, or just sit quietly while the drip runs.
How to Prepare
A few simple things can make your visit more comfortable:
- Drink water before you arrive — being reasonably hydrated makes the IV placement easier
- Eat something beforehand, especially if you tend to feel lightheaded around needles
- Wear a short sleeve or loose sleeve that can be pushed up comfortably
- Bring a form of ID for your first visit
After Your Appointment
How you feel afterward varies from person to person. Many clients head straight back to work or the rest of their day, though we recommend taking it easy for a few minutes after your line is removed, especially if it’s your first time.
